The Jewel

now before we begin i would like to preface that this book kind of freaked me out and if you are sensitive to things like male prostitutes or women being forced to have other womens children i wouldnt read this book, dont get me wrong its pretty good but if your touchy about stuff like what i mentioned above proceed with caution or not at all. okay lets start this off. so to clear the air i did like this book, the above warning was something i just felt was necessary because it was a little creepy and i feel yall deserve to know what you are getting into. so the jewel is a dystopian book series written by amy ewing, the jewel follows the main character violet as she is forced into a life she would give almost anything to escape. this dystopian world is called the lone city and it is divided into sections such as the marsh, the bank, and the jewel. the royalty all live in the jewel and back in their citys history all the royalty had some illness that messed with them having children however girls from the marsh, the most impoverished section, had special abilities that allowed them to have children, now flash to current day in their dystopian world. when girls in the marsh hit puberty they have a blood test done and if they are found to have these special abilities that let them have children then they are taken to their homes and raised as ladies training with their powers. when they come to a certain age they are auctioned off as surrogates to the highest bidder and the better their powers are the more money the royal women pay to get them. violet is auctioned off to a cruel woman known as the duchess of the lake. basically she enters into this whole social war that is going on between the royalty and she is thrust into the center of it when she is expected to give the duchess an heir. violet ends up falling for someone she could never be aloud to love all while figuring out what the cruel truth behind becoming a surrogate. will she escape this life? can she ever really love someone without fear of punishment? are these powers really meant to give the royalty babies? READ AND FIND OUT DORK. let me preface that i have not read the third book because it comes out in october and its july.... so i have no qualms with this book. its not my favorite but i dont really have anything to roast it for. it moves at a pretty good pace and i like the direction they are going with it, i do hold hope for the third and final book. which is coming out in october. wait i already said that. hmm. i think the only reason im not all over this book is because some of the ideas in this society were a little disturbing like having a child against your will and having it taken away and the way the royals act it just gives me a sick to my stomach feeling. a lot of people are forced to do some stuff like prostitute or have other peoples children in this book and im just not a big fan of thinking about things like that. however. and im gonna make this a vague however to avoid spoilers. there is hope for our characters to escape this life. itll get better guys *cue they inspirational cat poster* overall if your okay with some disturbing stuff (they dont vividly describe the stuff if your mind went in that direction but they do mention it) then this is a good book and i suggest it. but if your not into those things or like me you find them unsettling i would say skip this one. thanks for reading
